Agro-Forest: Growing and Expanding

Kindred CRAFT has been steadily working to expand the food system both in the field and in the forest ecosystem. With help and support from NOFA -VT, The North East Forest Farmers Coalition, Interlace Commons, and NRCS we have been able to add compost and mulching to build our soils, take soil samples in our various planting areas, and expand our plantings of forest floor edibles and medicinals. We are excited to share what we have been doing and what is happening on the land.

Fenced in Garden November, 2023.
Over the course of the last few seasons we have been slowly transforming the fenced garden to huklemounds that follow the contours of the land. We have been implementing this not til, no irrigation, no fertilization, method to address the periods of drought and seasonal flooding we have been experiencing in the recent years. We are grateful to guests who helped to mound compost over contour lines previously cut and filled with rotting logs and branches.
We documented the transformation through the seasons starting in early May through early September, 2026.
“We are grateful to all the community members who helped us in this effort.”
We will be hosting Community Build & Learn days on the farm. We hope you will join us and bring these skills back to your community.
