Board Member

For over twenty years, Una has been asking, “what does justice in design look like?” Her responses to this question have been shaped in deep collaboration with communities seeking liberation and self-determination.

Through her practice and organizing work, she attempts to use design to build the world we need, while also pushing the design field to be accountable for its impact on the world we live in.

In 2015, Una instigated the creation of a set of shared principles for design justice. This led to her co-founding the Design Justice Network, where she was a steering committee member until 2021.

Una helped coin the term “consentful tech” in the mid-2010s and created a feminist framework for consent in technology that has resulted in a cultural shift in conversations about privacy and security.

She is the founder and director of the Consentful Tech Project.

Una has been a visiting designer at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society, a presenter at the Toronto Biennial of Art, a fellow at UC Berkeley’s Center for Technology, Society, and Policy, a recipient of a Royal Society of Arts award, and a jury member for the Interaction Design Assocation (IxDA) Awards. She is the former design director of Allied Media Projects.
